SUMMARY:SACC Dallas: Valborg 2025 – A Festival of Spring and Fire
DESCRIPTION:Valborg The Festival of Spring and Fire A Swedish tradition originating in the 8th century\n\nAs spring blossoms forth\, Swedes across the world celebrate the arrival of May with time-honored traditions like bonfires and the celebration of King Carl XVI Gustaf's birthday. Embracing this cultural festivity\, SACC Dallas invites you to gather around the bonfire at the enchanting Solomon Estate for a memorable outdoor experience. Bring along your friends and family\, including the little ones\, as we come together for an evening of joy and community. This event is proudly organized in partnership with SWEA Dallas.\n\nDate: May 4\, 2025\n\nTime: 5:30PM\n\nLocation: 3334 San Gabriel Dr\, Plano\, TX 75074\n \n\nHistory: The Valborg tradition originated in Sweden based on a tail about a nun named Valborg whom lived in the 8th century\, declared a saint on May 1\, 799. After her canonization\, her name was linked to the Vikings' traditional festivities welcoming of spring. Valborg is celebrated in Estonia\, Finland\, Latvia\, Sweden\, the Czech Republic and Germany.\n\nMajbrasa May bonfire: Many of the traditions at Valborg\, such as the lighting of fires\, come from Germany\, where they used to light fires to scare away the witches that evening. Lighting fires in Sweden began during the Middle Ages in eastern Sweden\, while other parts of the country used to wait until mid-May with the fires.\n\nCustoms: The fires were meant to scare away wolves and supernatural beings before the animals were let out to pasture for the summer\, the first of May. Around the fires\, people used to shoot guns\, hit drums\, rattle with pot lids and shout\, all to scare. Nowadays firecrackers and fireworks are used instead as well as welcoming spring with song.\n\n... and an infinite other reasons to celebrate Spring and Valborg 2025!\n\nWe look forward to seeing you!\n\nOn behalf of the SACC Dallas Board\n\nPatrik Melander\n\nChairman & President\, SACC Dallas-Fort Worth\n\n\n\nMay 4 @ 5:30PM\n\nBring: What you would like to drink and eat - Majbrasa picnic + family & friends. \n\nAvailable at cost: Hot dogs\, Valborg spirits\, beer\, wine & soft drinks etc.
