SACC Houston: Houston Live with Astrid Marklund, Honorary Consul General of Sweden in Houston

Join us for another installment of Houston Live, a web series airing on Wednesdays at 11 am CST. In this series, we meet interesting people from various industries, governmental institutions, and academia at the crossroads between Sweden and Texas. 

In today's series, we will talk to Honorary Consul Astrid Marklund and Sweden holding the EU presidency during the first half of 2023. 

The main task of the country holding the EU presidency is to lead the meetings of the Council of Ministers and ongoing negotiations with the EU Parliament and the EU Commission. However, all regular summits are held in Brussels under the leadership of the Council's permanent president, currently former Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel.

Sweden has chaired the EU's Council of Ministers for the third time. The first time was in 2001 when Göran Persson (S) was prime minister. The second time was in 2009 when Fredrik Reinfeldt (M) led the government.
