SACC Dallas: Taking Children Abroad - What Happens When Parents Disagree?

Taking Children Abroad - What Happens When Parents Disagree? And Does It Matter Why?

Duane Morris attorneys Joakim Soederbaum and Ramsey Schultz will discuss the legal framework established under The Hague Convention for the prompt return of children who have been taken across borders or kept abroad without both parents´ consent.

The system is designed, and provides legal assistance, to promote the prompt return of children, but exceptions exist to protect the children from dangers such as domestic violence. Joakim and Ramsey will discuss these exceptions and the resources available for a parent seeking to protect a child that has been taken to the United States.

They will also share a real-life example. Since 2023, as part of Duane Morris´s extensive pro bono program, Joakim and Ramsey have represented a Venezuelan mother in her efforts to keep her young daughter in the United States, whom she brought here after the father moved to Spain.
